April 2012 Rainfall Summary
The above image depicts the total observed rainfall for the past month of April. From a broad perspective, you might note that Mississippi, far south Florida, portions of the Carolinas, and Virginia received the most rain (yellow and red). These areas generally received at least 2 inches of rain. Several spots received at least 5 inches of rain, primarily over higher elevations of western North Carolina and the Miami metro region.
On the other hand, rainfall was scarce over the rest of the Southeast U.S. The blue-shaded spots, mainly in west central Georgia, only received about 0.50 inches of rain the entire month!
The extent of below-normal rainfall is April is clearly seen in the departure and percent of normal images. The majority of Alabama and Georgia only received half (or less) of normal rainfall during the month.
